Data Center Migration and Server Logistics Services

Presto Logistics provides specialized Data Center Migration and Server Logistics for enterprises, managed service providers (MSPs), and government agencies nationwide. From our headquarters in Simi Valley, CA, we execute the physical transport of mission-critical IT infrastructure, including populated server racks, SAN/NAS storage arrays, and mainframes. Our process prioritizes zero downtime strategies and strict Chain of Custody security. Utilizing a team of vetted professionals and specialized air-ride suspension vehicles, we ensure that your sensitive hardware is protected from vibration, static discharge, and thermal shock from the moment of disconnect to the final green light at your new colocation facility.

The physical layer

The Physics of IT Migration: Moving the Physical Layer

We offer two distinct methodologies based on your hardware and risk profile.

Live rack relocation

For modern, dynamic cabinets, we use specialized rack jacks to lift and roll the entire populated server rack onto the truck. This eliminates the time-consuming process of un-racking and re-racking, significantly reducing downtime.

De-populated transport

For older rails or heavy static loads, our technicians carefully un-rack each server, rail, and PDU. Components are individually packed in antistatic foam and segregated by U-position to ensure an exact mirror re-installation at the destination.

Antistatic packing and shock-absorbing palletization

Static electricity is the invisible killer of IT hardware. Our team creates an ESD-safe zone within your loading dock. We use pink antistatic bubble wrap and conductive bins for all circuit boards and drives.

For palletized moves, we use custom floating deck pallets that mechanically isolate the server stack from the truck floor, reducing high-frequency road vibrations that can dislodge RAM or damage spinning hard drive platters.

Before we arrive

Pre-Move Server Backup Protocols

Before a single cable is unplugged, we recommend CIOs and IT Directors execute the following pre-move readiness protocol.

01
Execute the 3-2-1 backup rule
Ensure you have 3 copies of your data, on 2 different media types, with 1 copy located off-site (cloud or remote tape vault).
02
Verify restore procedures
A backup is useless if it cannot be restored. Run a bare metal restore test on a non-critical virtual machine (VM) 72 hours before the move.
03
Perform a soft shutdown
Do not simply cut power. Execute a graceful shutdown of all operating systems and database services to flush caches and prevent data corruption.
04
Map physical dependencies
Label every cable at both ends (source and destination). Create a port map spreadsheet that correlates Switch Port A1 to Server NIC 1 to ensure connectivity is restored instantly.
05
Remove unsecured internal components
If moving loose towers, ensure heavy GPUs or expansion cards are supported or removed to prevent PCI slot damage during transit.
Chain of custody

Security and Chain of Custody: Protecting Intellectual Property

When your servers are on our truck, your company's entire brain is in our hands.

GPS-tracked fleets and tamper-evident seals

We provide real-time visibility. Our trucks are equipped with GPS transponders that enable your security team to track the shipment's exact location and speed around the clock.

Upon loading, the truck doors are secured with numbered tamper-evident seals. The seal number is recorded on the Bill of Lading and verified by your receiving team at the destination before the doors are opened, ensuring no unauthorized access occurred during transit.

No day labor in your server room

The biggest security risk is often the people. Presto Logistics never uses day labor or unknown subcontractors for data center projects.

Our vetted employees undergo background checks and drug screenings. We provide a roster with photos and ID numbers to your security team 24 hours prior to the move, ensuring only authorized personnel cross your facility's man-trap.

Disposition

Secure IT Asset Disposition and Data Destruction

Not every server makes the trip.

NIST 800-88 compliant data sanitization

For end-of-life hardware, we provide rigorous IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) services. We do not simply recycle drives; we sanitize them in accordance with NIST 800-88 guidelines (Purge, Clear, Destroy).

Whether you require on-site degaussing or physical shredding of hard drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD), we provide a serialized Certificate of Destruction for every storage device, ensuring your data cannot be recovered from the scrap pile.

R2 certified e-waste recycling

Corporate sustainability mandates require responsible disposal. We partner with R2v3 certified recyclers to ensure that your decommissioned racks, cabling, and printed circuit boards (PCBs) are processed securely and environmentally.

We provide a mass balance report that tracks the weight of materials diverted from landfills, helping your organization meet its ESG goals while avoiding EPA fines for improper e-waste disposal.

Colocation

Colocation and Hybrid Cloud Logistics

Moving into a Tier 3 or Tier 4 colocation facility requires strict adherence to facility protocols.

Navigating meet-me-rooms and cage security

Our teams are experienced in navigating the rigorous security of colocation man-traps and loading docks. We coordinate directly with the facility's NOC (Network Operations Center) to manage cross-connect installation in the meet-me-room prior to your hardware arriving, ensuring that your upstream connectivity is live the moment we rack your servers.

Smart hands support for edge deployments

For distributed enterprises placing servers in edge data centers across multiple states, you don't need to fly your IT staff to every location. Presto Logistics acts as your smart hands partner.

Once we deliver and rack the equipment, our technicians can follow your remote instructions to patch cables, install power whips, and toggle switches, effectively extending your IT team's reach nationwide without the travel cost.

Based at 3965 Heritage Oak Ct, we support the dense concentration of tech firms in the Simi Valley and Chatsworth corridor.

Technology company office and IT infrastructure environment

We work into national colocation facilities regularly and know how their insurance requirements and loading dock access protocols run, which saves your team the administrative back and forth.

We understand that the value of a server rack often exceeds standard carrier liability limits, so we offer specialized High-Value Inventory Insurance packages that cover the replacement cost of the hardware.

No carrier can insure the data itself. That is why the backup protocol above comes before anything we do.

For material that needs holding between facilities, our secure commercial storage covers the gap. For wider office moves, see commercial relocations.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Data Center Moving

Something not covered? Call 888-678-6151 and we'll walk the rack list with you.

Can you move servers while they are still running?

No. Physical servers must be powered down and heads parked to prevent hardware damage. However, we can move your redundant equipment first to keep your services live, then move the primary equipment in a second wave.

Do you provide insurance for lost data?

We offer High-Value Inventory Insurance covering the replacement cost of the hardware, because a populated rack usually exceeds standard carrier liability limits. No carrier can insure the data itself, which is why the pre-move backup protocol on this page matters. Run the 3-2-1 rule and verify your restore before move day.

Do you service interstate data center moves?

Yes. We operate nationwide from our Simi Valley headquarters, and we act as a Smart Hands partner for distributed enterprises with equipment in edge data centers across multiple states. Call 888-678-6151 with your origin and destination facilities.
